Studio229 - "Metropolis"
During a lull in production, we decided to use the downtime by creating a cinematic opening logo in the style of Fritz Lang's Metropolis. This required learning new rendering and compositing skills to bring that classic black * white filmic look to life. We completed this project in just under a month, creating a whole new rendering & development pipeline to go along with it.
Responsibilities:
Director, Modeling & Animation

The original 'storyboard' drawn by Cobalt became the basis for our vertical camera move.
The art design storyboard followed, using mockups and WIP renders to portray what each section would look like, setting the mood for the whole production.

Reference notes from Cobalt on how the underground crane structure could be animated
This is an OpenGL preview which allowed us to preview the scene without rendering. Each frame would take over two hours to render, so this was much quicker!
In addition to the procedural background buildings, several key buildings were built with higher levels of detail

An alternate neon-topped building gave a unique look, but didn't fit in with the Studio229 logo so was eventually scrapped.
